Reminder: Mad. Sq. Fall Plant Market is This Week!
The Fall Plant Market has arrived at
Madison Square Park. Come and enjoy the park during this unseasonably
warm autumn and stop by to purchase a plant for your desk, home or a
gift for a family member or friend. Some of the plants featured will be
Mums, Montauk Daisies, Bella Palms and African Violets. We will also
have Sugar Pumpkins! Kim Wickers, Director of Horticulture of Madison
Square Park, will be there to answer your plant care questions. Hope to
see you at the Plant Market! The Market will be open on October 4th and 5th from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Mad. Sq. Studio: The Last Show of the Season is This Weekend!
 |
KJ Denhert gave a lively show
on 9/29. |
 |
Sloan Waiwright was a Mad. Sq. Studio
hit on 9/29. |
One of the most rewarding aspects of the MAD SQ STUDIO
series is the opportunity to present a range of talent inspired by the
folk and blues idiom and to introduce audience members to artists they
may not know. This was abundantly evident at the show last Saturday
with KJ Denhert and Sloan Wainwright as they showcased their distinctively different musical styles for an audience of new and diehard fans.
Our final concert of the season takes place this Saturday, October 6, at 3 p.m.
with a double bill featuring talented artists from different
generations: newcomer multi-instrumentalist (dobro, guitar, lap guitar)
Abbie Gardner (from the group Red Molly) accompanied
by guitarist Anthony da Costa, and seasoned champions of the East Coast
Piedmont style of blues Cephas & Wiggins in a rare New York appearance. Guitarist
John Cephas and harmonicist Phil Wiggins are often compared in style
and appeal to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee with their own blend of
tradition and originality. If you love acoustic music, you absolutely
want to catch this show!
Concerts take place by the Shake Shack. Table and chair seating is available on a first come basis.
Thank you to our generous sponsors who make this season of MAD SQ STUDIO possible: Kew Management, Zwicker Electric, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Benvenuto Café on 23rd Street and our station partner WFUV. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
Credit Suisse Lends a Hand in Beautifying Mad. Sq. Park!

The Credit Suisse Bench Painting Team
on 9/24. |
 |
| The team made sure not to miss any spots! |
Mad. Sq. Park is fortunate to have an ongoing partnership with Credit
Suisse. Our friends at Credit Suisse often volunteer with us for park
activities. The Banking & Client IT (BCIT) management team decided
to do a team building activity that would allow them to give back to
the community. On September 24, the BCIT management team, led by
Shahriar Rafimayeri, painted park benches on Madison Avenue, across the
street from Credit Suisse's New York offices. The results of the
group's efforts were immediately seen as park visitors sat on the
benches despite the "wet paint" signs. Thanks, volunteers!

Kim Wickers, Director of
Horticulture at Mad. Sq. Park. |
Autumn is here and our park staff is gearing up for some seasonal décor. Director of Horticulture,
|
| Kim in the midst of replanting the urns. |
Kim Wickers, is in the midst of replanting the urns that surround the
Southern Fountain. Kim has used her mastery of horticulture and keen
aesthetic taste to plan the new urn décor. What can you expect to see
in the newly decorated urns? Each will be filled with a combination of
Pansies, Ornamental Kale, Liriope ‘Big Blue’, Liriope Muscari ‘Silvery
Sunproof’, Pelee Mums ‘Burnt Sunset’, Garden Mums ‘Foxy Marjorie’, and
Miscanthus Sinesis ‘Gracillimus’. When strolling through the park,
please pause to admire Kim’s masterpieces.
Save The Date: Fall Kids Fest!
