Solar One Thanks You for Your Support

As a small non-profit, we depend on you to help support the work we're doing to make NYC a cleaner, greener, healthier place to live. 2007 was a big year for us, and with your generous contributions, we'll be able to accomplish even more in 2008. Thanks to everyone for their continuing support!

As you know, we are a young organization with big ideas.  Your
contributions have helped us launch our new I Heart PV campaign which will inform and educate people across the state about the importance of solar energy and its compatibility with New York City and New York State's stated intentions to reduce carbon emissions.  Solar energy is clean energy and even more importantly
provides the opportunity for green collar jobs in New York State.  We look forward to keeping you posted on our progress over the next few years on this important initiative.

Jill Fehrenbacher and Marc Alt

Jill Fehrenbacher of Inhabitat and Marc Alt of Marc Alt + Partners are the organizers of the upcoming Greener Gadgets conference (http://www.greenergadgets.com) on February 1st in NYC, a full day event focusing on the greening of the consumer electronics industry. Jill and Marc will give an overview of the current state and future trends in the field of green technology, do a quick show-and-tell of a few of their top ten Green Gadgets and answer questions about recycling your old cell phones and computers, energy and the future of materials and renewable energy for consumer electronics.

Also in Green Renter news, check out our new Green Renter video feature! We'll be posting past presentations with audio on our website, so you can view the Green Renters you miss online. The first one available is the Sheridan Swap, presented by the South Bronx Watershed Alliance.
Solar One Awarded Hudson River Estuary Grant

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has awarded Solar One over $49,000 to develop our Estuary Sustainability Project. The award, made through the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, is part of the State's effort to acheive the goals of the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda to revitalize the river and raise awareness of its historic importance. During the past hundred years or so, the Estuary became one of the most polluted waterways in the US, but concerted efforts since the 1970s have cleaned it up a lot. Now there's even more interest in preserving and developing the Estuary as an educational tool, showing how diverse species like oysters, sea birds and fish can be encouraged to return to the once-filthy waters. The Estuary is a fascinating ecosystem right in Solar One's front yard, and we're really excited about this great opportunity to introduce students from all over the city to it!
