New York Loves Mountains
NY Loves Mountains is an all-volunteer environmental advocacy organization committed to raising awareness in New York about mountain top removal coal mining (MTR) in Appalachia. MTR, a radical form of strip mining in which whole tops of mountains are blown off and waste is dumped in nearby streams and valleys, is severely threatening the land and culture of Appalachia as well as the watershed upon which the Southeastern Unites States depends. Many Americans contribute to MTR through their power plants’ purchase and burning of coal from MTR mine sites, including New Yorkers.
